When it comes to winter gloves, thicker is no longer better. New technologies in smart fabrics have paved the way for lightweight, thin gloves that provide maximum protection against the cold. One such smart fabric is Thinsulate, developed by 3M. The promise is this: Stay warm and cosy without the bulk.
Winter gloves made using Thinsulate are essentially equipped with high-tech microfibres (very fine fibres) that are designed to trap air molecules between your hands and the outside cold. The more air is trapped in a space‚ the better it can insulate you from the chilly air outside. Thinsulate’s extremely fine fibres—which are much finer than what is currently used in natural and synthetic insulation materials—traps much more air in much less space. This makes it a better insulator.
The best thing about Thinsulate winter gloves is that they provide warmth without the usual bulk. They also tend to be affordable, as Thinsulate itself is a low-cost material (definitely much less expensive than down, but just as effective).
Thinsulate winter gloves are breathable and moisture-resistant. Best of all, they are low-maintenance. You can wash them in the machine or have them dry cleaned without destroying their fibres.
Different manufacturers of winter gloves do not use Thinsulate in their products. Some manufacturers have been able to incorporate extra features, including anti-odour, stretch recovery, and even flame resistance. You can find a wide range of Thinsulate winter gloves online at great prices.
Thinsulate is not only used in gloves, but also in jackets, boots, and many other applications. It is even used for home construction, bedding, and in drapes. 3M is constantly investing in and developing the Thinsulate brand, so you can expect to see it being used in more parts of our daily lives—maybe even in the electronic and digital tools we depend on daily. In the meantime, you can readily enjoy the superior insulation benefits of Thinsulate winter gloves.
In order to choose good quality women’s thermal underwear, you need to understand the differences between the most common types available. They are available in a wide range of fabrics—including cotton, wool, fabric blends, and smart fabrics. You should also consider the weight as well as the usage specifications of the women’s thermals you want to buy.
Cotton women’s thermal underwear is perfectly fine for when you’re staying indoors and don’t intend to participate in cold weather sports, camping, or hiking. They provide extra warmth, but they do not wick moisture away and are therefore unsuitable for outdoor activities.
The next most common material used for women’s thermals is wool, which tends to be a bit more expensive but worth the money. Wool thermal underwear can provide you superior warmth while allowing moisture to escape, thereby keeping you dry. They are fantastic for staying in as well as doing light outdoor activities, like an easy hike.
If you intend to participate in high-action winter sports like skiing or snowboarding, consider buying thermal underwear made of special fabric blends—typically a mix of spandex, polyester, and wool. These types of women’s thermals offer superior warmth and moisture control, making them perfect for athletic activities. In addition, some manufacturers have incorporated their thermals with odour control technologies.
Aside from fabric, you should also look at weight when shopping for thermal underwear. Lightweight varieties are best for high-level activities but may not be the optimum choice for extreme cold. Heavy weight fabrics—often labelled ‘expedition’ weight in the active wear industry—are a great choice for extreme cold. For everyday use, mid-weight fabrics will do.
A lot of women’s thermal underwear these days have added performance features. For example, some thermal shirts have thumbholes so that the arm sleeves stay in place and don’t roll up under your sweater or jacket. The best thermal underwear for layering doesn’t have zippers or fasteners that may interfere with your outer layers.
Harsh winter weather can be tough on your hands, so shielding them with a pair of warm gloves can ensure that dry, chapped skin is a thing of the past. Your kids can bravely take on the snow with the right children’s winter gloves. Keep their hands toasty when the temperatures drop by shopping for gloves that blend style with function.
Children’s winter gloves come in a variety of colours, materials, fits, and styles, from cosy little mittens to thermal insulated gloves. It makes sense to buy multiple pairs every year or so, as kids tend to wear out and soil their gloves fast.
Your children will have no trouble building snowmen in gloves that protect their hands and allow complete mobility. Your job as a parent is to look for gloves with stretch. Those with articulated finger designs are ideal especially for older children, as it allows the fingers to move, grip, and bend easily. Does your child like to stay active during the winter, enjoying snow sports? Then gloves that are designed with grip palms for better traction are best.
The warmest winter gloves for freezing temperatures are constructed with three layers for maximum warmth. The gloves should have (1) an outer shell that is waterproof, (2) a great insulation layer, and a lining with moisture-management features. When it gets really cold, you want to make sure that your children’s gloves have elasticized wrists to keep the warmth in and the wind out. The elastic also ensures that their gloves stay on their hands as they play and go about their day.
Will you be taking your kids with you on a ski holiday? Then they need special gear. For added warmth in the snowy slopes, choose children’s gloves with waterproof outer shells (not just water-resistant, but waterproof). You should also choose ski gloves made with quick-drying fabrics. The best ski gloves are ergonomic, with a pre-curved fit that feel more natural on the hands.

Leicester City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby joined the Universal Textiles team at our Oswin Road, Braunstone warehouse last month to help launch our first outlet store, complete with its own Click & Collect service.
The outlet store not only offers a variety of clearance products from brands like Result and Fruit of the Loom at bargain prices but also allows customers to buy online and collect their purchases in person within 24 hours of their order being placed.
Customers can also reserve their items online and pay in store upon collection at a time that suits them best, with customers being notified by text and email when their item is ready. With a spacious changing room also available, customers can try items on in-store, and only pay when they’re completely satisfied with their order.
Whilst prices remain the same as those online, customers who click and collect save money as well as time by avoiding postage costs, with ample on-site customer parking making it easy to collect your order at your leisure.
Once the ribbon had been cut, Sir Peter was given a private tour of the new store, and got a chance to try out the company’s state of the art touch-screen ordering system, which allows customers to browse the full product range and place an order in-store.
Speaking about the experience Sir Peter said: “It is encouraging to see a textile and distribution company like Universal Textiles that has been in Leicester for three generations diversifying and growing. I was particularly impressed by the personal enthusiasm of Managing Director Ravi Karia and that of his staff, and their commitment to growing the business further.”
The opening of the outlet store follows a string of recent expansions for Universal Textiles, hot on the heels of our move from Syston to our more central Braunstone location in May, with the business requiring a larger warehouse to cope with an increased volume of orders.
With an ever-expanding workforce and a growing sales presence reaching throughout Europe, America and Japan, we are now excited to offer local people the same great value products that customers from around the world enjoy online.
Managing Director Ravi Karia said: “It was fantastic to have the Sir Peter with us and for him to show his support for the launch of our outlet store. Universal Textiles is a local business that’s just grown and grown, and this has easily been our biggest year yet.”
“Our click and collect service means that we can provide customers with a flexible shopping experience that works with them in mind. We’ve got 12,000 lines and 100,000 products on offer, so there really is something for everyone, and we hope that local people come down to see what we have on offer.”

Thermal clothing is the perfect way to keep extra warm throughout Autumn and Winter. They are also useful if you want to keep the cold out while playing winter sports or simply enjoying the outdoors. This is why you need to shop for high-quality thermal clothing. The next time you go shopping for winter thermals, keep these important tips in mind:
- Check the materials. When it does to thermal wear, it’s all about the fabric. Low-quality thermal underwear does not wick your sweat away, leaving you feeling wet and cold. It’s a good idea to spend a little bit more money on “wicking” thermal clothes made of materials that easily spread out moisture. You want a thermal garment that moves sweat away from your skin and dries quickly. Look for thermal clothing that is made with lightweight and stretchable materials like spandex and polyester, so they easily balance moisture and temperature. Try to avoid polypropylene because it tends to retain odour and becomes stinky.
- Fleece is fantastic and you can’t go wrong with it. It’s a tried and tested insulator, making it perfect if you spend a lot of time outdoors. It still performs even when wet, and it dries quickly because the material spreads the moisture out.
- Layering is the key to staying warm. Invest on thermal sweaters, turtlenecks, pullovers, and vests. If you are outdoors a lot, you need an exterior layer that repels water from snow, rain, or sleet, and effectively blocks wind.
- Protect your face, neck, head, and extremities. Did you know that 60% of your
body heat escapes from your head? Preserve that heat by wearing a thick,
insulating hat. A fleece neck gaiter or scarf is also recommended to cover your neck area. You also need insulated gloves and medium-weight or lightweight thermal socks.
