Helping our customers make informed decisions
Whilst Summer may still technically be with us, it seems that the best of the warmer weather may well be over. When it comes to keeping kids warm through autumn and winter, it’s never too soon to start planning their cold weather wardrobe.
Infants and toddlers are small and unable to generate as much body heat as adults, making them vulnerable to the cold. Without proper insulation and warmth, they can get sick during the harsh winter. Protective and insulating clothing are crucial for babies. Apart from thermal clothes and underwear, they also need winter accessories like hats.
Around 60% of body heat escapes from our heads, making winter hats necessary for infants and toddlers. Winter hats are specially made with insulating materials that can prevent heat from escaping, thereby maintaining body heat. There are thermal beanies and wool bonnets for babies that are designed to fit snugly around the head of an infant or a toddler, yet are soft enough to be worn comfortably all day without causing irritation. Sheepskin and cashmere are also ideal for warmth. If the baby is allergic to wool, materials like polyester fleece, cotton flannel, and winter hats that are made from thick, synthetic fibres are great alternatives.
The best winter hats for babies cover the ears. Chin straps are useful for keeping the hat in place, but is not always necessary. Check the outer fabric of the hat and make sure it is water or wind resistant. Go for a winter hat that is lined with bamboo, hemp, or cotton.
Does your baby have sensitive skin? Then some fabrics may be better than others. There are certain types of wool that may cause irritation, while fleece may cause static and may surprise your baby.
You may need a variety of different hats of various thickness for fall, winter, and spring. Lightweight hats with no or thin lining are best for fall and spring, while thicker hats are great for winter. It’s better to have back-up hats just in case you misplace or lose one.

Thermal underwear is a protective type of clothing that insulates your body by helping you preserve body heat. Thermal underwear is not just worn by outdoor and winter sports enthusiasts; it can also be used by those who simply want to keep extra warm during the winter, making them wardrobe must-haves. There are certain factors to consider when buying thermal underwear for winter:
• Check the thickness and weight of the underwear. Buy the right thermal underwear according to the activity or conditions that you’re going to use them for. Thicker underwear is recommended if you’re not going to be moving a lot, such as when you’re indoors or just going out for errands.
• Check the material and look for “wicking,” which means moisture spreads out and dries quickly, preventing you from getting cold. Look for materials that make the underwear easier to wash and dry, such as a combination of nylon, wool, and spandex.
• Check for odour-control properties. Avoid polypropylene, which tends to retain sweat and moisture, causing a bad smell.
• Thermal underwear must fit snugly and comfortably. Choose underwear with stretching seams so you won’t feel like it’s restricting your movement.
• Go for thermal underwear with ankle seams and neat cuffs so that they don’t ride up when worn, and a soft, neat, and comfortable neckline that can prevent moisture and stop drafts.
• Consider buying thermal underwear with long torsos to protect areas of your body where your bladder and kidney are located.
Some types of thermal underwear might be a bit pricey, but it’s better to invest on high-quality thermal underwear that is resilient and can be worn several times. Good thermal wear saves you money in the long run and ensures that you stay warm all throughout winter.

Regatta produce a wide range of high quality fleeces, including this Ladies Thor III Fleece Jacket. Made from a premium yarn, they are lightweight yet warm, as reflected in their GSM (grams per square meter). This particular fleece comes in five colours and has fleece cuffs and an adjustable shockcord hem to maintain heat.
The signature quality expected from the company is also reflected in their hats and gloves. Many of their hats, including the Thermal Winter Fleece Hat, are made with Thinsulate technology. This increased density of fibres enables heat to be maintained, whilst moisture can escape.
Regatta products are ideally suited to outdoor sports such as skiing. This is reflected in these Kids Waterproof Ski Mittens. Both waterproof and made with a thermal lining, these mittens will keep children’s hands dry and warm for hours. The grips on the mittens make ski poles easier to grasp, with an adjustable velcro strap enabling the mittens to achieve the perfect fit.
Whether for work or recreational use, Regatta’s waterproof trousers are renowned for their exceptional quality. The Packaway Waterproof Trousers are one such pair. Both wind and waterproof, the trousers are made with taped seams and press studs at the hem. They also have an elasticated waist and are breathable as well as waterproof, making them comfortable to wear both as an individual garment and atop another pair of trousers.
The garment Regatta is perhaps most noted for, however, is the jacket. Just one of many great jackets available from them, the Benson II 3 in 1 Waterproof Breathable Jacket, features many of the trademark features expected from a Regatta jacket. Made with waterproof and breathable Isotex coated taslan fabric, Isotex is Regatta’s own family of waterproof and breathable fabrics that offers a waterproof performance of up to 20,000mm.
With anti-pill fleece lining for warmth, a concealed hood and a studded stormflap, the jacket is suited to all conditions. It is also windproof, has taped seams and several pockets to store maps, mobile phones and much more.

Babies shoes are very important. Babies feet are made up of very soft cartilage than doesn’t fully harden until they are 18 years old, and they can easily be pushed out of shape or damaged at quite a young age, so it’s really important they have the right shoes at a young age.
Babies do not really need shoes until they are walking and up until that point, booties or socks will suffice. When you baby has been walking for about six weeks, then it’s time to think about shoes. They can seem like a big expense when your baby grows out of them so quickly, and it’s important to get them measured every six to eight weeks.
When choosing your first pair of shoes, pick some lightweight and flexible with non slip soles and adjustable fastenings. View our range of baby shoes here for low cost, high quality shoes.
Children’s Lunch Boxes have become somewhat of an expression of their personalities, very often children like to have a lunch box which features their favourite television or film character.
Some of the examples of the earliest lunch boxes comes from the 19th century and were originally women baskets with handles. The metal lunchboxes started to be produced in the 1950s and have had somewhat of a resurgence with vintage boxes being used by grown ups or for unique storage ideas. The plastic kind that are used by children nowadays were introduced in the 1990s, and these have the advantage of being easy to clean.
The first licensed character lunch box was introduced in 1935 and featured Mickey Mouse. Our range of lunch boxes included Bart Simpson, Ben 10 and Minnie Mouse. So whichever character your child likes, you are sure to find one to match. View the range here.
