Your kids can bravely take on the snow with the right children’s winter gloves. Keep their hands toasty when the temperatures drop by shopping for gloves that blend style with function.
Children’s winter gloves come in a variety of colours, materials, fits, and styles, from cosy little mittens to thermal insulated gloves. It makes sense to buy multiple pairs every year or so, as kids tend to wear out and soil their gloves fast.
Your children will have no trouble building snowmen in gloves that protect their hands and allow complete mobility. Your job as a parent is to look for gloves with stretch. Those with articulated finger designs are ideal especially for older children, as it allows the fingers to move, grip, and bend easily. Does your child like to stay active during the winter, enjoying snow sports? Then gloves that are designed with grip palms for better traction are best.
The warmest winter gloves for freezing temperatures are constructed with three layers for maximum warmth. The gloves should have (1) an outer shell that is waterproof, (2) a great insulation layer, and a lining with moisture-management features. When it gets really cold, you want to make sure that your children’s gloves have elasticized wrists to keep the warmth in and the wind out. The elastic also ensures that their gloves stay on their hands as they play and go about their day.
Will you be taking your kids with you on a ski holiday? Then they need special gear. For added warmth in the snowy slopes, choose children’s gloves with waterproof outer shells (not just water-resistant, but waterproof). You should also choose ski gloves made with quick-drying fabrics. The best ski gloves are ergonomic, with a pre-curved fit that feel more natural on the hands.
Outdoor activities may be tough on the hands and feet. However, there are practical accessories that you can wear to protect your extremities from the strains and stresses of your everyday activities. Whether you are out skiing, gardening, or engaging in some extreme sport, you will need the proper type of gloves and socks to protect your hands and feet from the elements.
Gloves are pretty basic and you will find many practical styles, designs, and materials to fit your requirements, whatever the season. You can choose from ski gloves to work gloves made out of different blends of textiles and fabrics, each type offering protection from different elements. Cotton gloves, for example, are excellent for use when doing light mechanical work, driving or, if you want to keep your hands warm during slightly cold days. Cotton is also a common choice of material for casual socks, since they absorb sweat and saturate quickly. Cotton socks protect your feet from sunburn while making light outdoor activities more comfortable.
Socks also come in a wide variety of styles and types. Just like gloves, there are very specific sock styles for every activity. Athletic socks or multi-sport socks range from traditional white gym socks made out of moisture-wicking fabrics to technical athletic socks that are designed for running and cross training. Most athletic socks are made with sole cushions, but are kept thin to reduce the overall bulk and increase comfort.
Running socks, on the other hand, are thin liner socks that have light padding and dense cushioning in the ball of the foot and the heel. While some runners prefer to have less padding, others prefer more to add cushioning and reduce foot fatigue. Walking socks provide cushioning and offer moisture-wicking properties, ideal for long walks and fitness walk.
Lightweight socks for hiking are also available. Designed especially for the needs of hikers, these socks offer moisture wicking properties and modest cushioning to maximize movement. There are also backpacking and mountaineering socks, which are heavier than common hiking socks.
Ski snowboard socks offer padding in the shin and underfoot areas to provide additional warmth and protect the pressure points of the feet. Casual socks can be easily distinguished by their casual styling, colors, and designs. They are often made out of performance fabrics, like merino wool, or more lightweight fabrics like cotton.
You don’t want numb fingers and frozen palms when you are out skiing. To enjoy your ski trip to the fullest, invest in a good pair of ski gloves that will keep your hands warm and agile for those swift swerves and sharp turns. Here are some helpful tips when choosing high quality, durable ski gloves:
1. Go for waterproof varieties. The best ski gloves are totally waterproof, but are made out of breathable fabrics that allow sweat from your hands to escape. When buying ski gloves, go for ones that are waterproof but won’t trap sweat inside, making your hands uncomfortable, and affecting your grip. Some gloves are simply water-resistant, and while they can keep water out for a certain amount of time, they are no good when you plan on soaking in the snow the whole day.
2. Feel the warmth. While gloves offer less insulation than mitts, they still offer warmth by trapping your own body heat inside. Some varieties even have removable layers so you can adjust warmth according to the environment.
3. Choose a good material. The material used both inside and outside the glove is also an important consideration. Ski gloves should have enough insulation inside and a good grip outside, and while you want hand gear that offers warmth, you don’t want a glove that is so thickly padded that you can’t move your fingers freely for control.
4. Check the closure system. You also want a glove with an efficient closure system that won’t easily come off even when you are going very fast on your skis.

There are 10 rules for dressing in winter, and if you follow these, they will allow you to stay warm when the temperature drops below freezing.
- Wear lots of layers – the more layers you wear, the more air will get trapped in between them and as air is an excellent insulator it will keep you warm. It’s better to wear too many layers as they can be taken off. Layers such as t-shirts will work perfectly.
- Buy a good pair of boots – Boots are a winter essential, they keep your feet warmer than shoes and usually have better grip for icy conditions. Boot liners are also available for more insulation.
- Wear winter socks – Wool or thermal socks are ideal as these draw the moisture away from your feet keeping them warm and dry.
- Invest in a good quality coat – the thicker the better, choose fabrics such as wool or a synthetic ski jacket for maximum warmth. We have a wide range of winter coats.
- Thermal Underwear – a base layer is really helpful for keeping you warm, a thin layer close to the skin traps the air, and also draws away your sweat.
- Hats – these are essential, heat rises and we lose most of our heat through our heads to try and a hat keeps it in. We have a wide variety of hats for everyone in many different colours and styles here.
- Gloves and mittens – your hands are an extremity and are most susceptible to the cold so its important to keep them wrapped up. Even a thin glove is better than nothing but thick, insulating gloves are best. View our range here.
- Wear two layers on your legs – long johns for men or tights/leggings for women under your work trousers really help to keep your legs warm, often people wear 5 layers on the top half and forget about their bottom half.
- Stay dry – being wet in cold temperatures lowers your core temperature dramatically so wear waterproof clothing or base layers which draw the moisture away from your skin.
- Wear a scarf – A thick scarf really makes a difference, especially in keeping your neck warm, choose fabrics such as wool or thermal fabrics and these are warmest against the skin. Browse our range of scarves here.
Leather gloves are both stylish and practical. They are also suitable for both men and women. Leather gloves are often limited in colour choices due to the nature of the material, but they always look good no matter what outfit is being worn. Wearing leather gloves in winter means hands stay warm and the natural materials also means the skin can breathe easily too.
Men’s leather gloves for winter are available with a half elasticated wrist cuff, meaning they fit more snugly, are more secure on the hands and remain warmer for longer. They are made from 100% leather and have a 100% polyester lining. The leather used is sheep skin. Another style in the men’s leather gloves range includes a pair of leather gloves with a Thinsulate lining that offers added comfort and warmth for the wearer. These are made from 100% sheepskin leather and the lining is 65% polypropylene and 35% polyester.
Women’s leather gloves are also available in similar styles. The 100% leather gloves come in a choice of black or brown and have a button fastening at the wrist to ensure a comfortable and more secure fit for the wearer. The lining is 100% polyester.
Leather gloves are extremely practical and can be worn during all seasons if required. They are ideal to be worn as driving gloves too as they have a more natural grip. Leather gloves are often thought of as very expensive, but this is not the case. Leather gloves can be purchased at a very reasonable price. They are hardwearing and will last longer than cheaper gloves.
Convincing children to wear gloves in winter is a challenging task, but keeping their hands warm is essential, particularly for very young children. For young children, the solution is mittens. Mittens are easy to put on, but they limit the hand’s movement and it can be hard for the child to grip drinks and other items.
One option for children’s winter gloves is the thermal fleece glove. Fleece is a very soft fabric created from synthetic fibres. It is used for cold weather garments and is designed to recreate the effects of wool. The fabric can be produced at very little cost to manufacturers resulting in a lower cost to consumers for the garment. This is ideal for children’s gloves, because if there is one item each year that a child is bound to lose, it is at least one of their gloves. Now replacing them will be inexpensive. The fleece glove is also available with a palm grip.
Children’s winter gloves are available in a wide range of styles and colours. Padded thermal ski gloves are perfect for children who like to be out playing in the cold and snow. The gloves are water resistant, so they are ideal for snowball fights. These have a high thermal rating for wearing on even the coldest days. The gloves are fashionable enough for both boys and girls to be happy to be seen wearing them.
