Our Top Picks For Men This Summer

Shopping for summer may seem simple on paper, but if you or your loved ones are struggling to beat the heat during the warmer months, being a savvy shopper can really pay off. We’ve gathered together our top menswear picks for the summer, with hints and tips about what to do to survive the season and stay sweatfree.

Whilst style is definitely important, the composition and colour of an item can play a bigger part than you might think. Lightweight polyester tops like this Just Cool Men’s Plain Performance T-Shirt, are a prime example, with the fabric incorporating a special moisture-wicking fibre to help keep sweat at bay. Avoiding black and other dark colours is another top tip, with these darker shades being scientifically proven to absorb more heat when exposed to direct sunlight.

In professional environments the standard shirt and tie are inescapable, even in summer. But those wishing to keep their cool when at work whilst also staying in their boss’s good-books should stock up on short sleeve shirts, such as this Fruit Of The Loom Poplin Shirt, blending practical heat-management with an office-friendly finish. With a light polycotton blend, it’s the perfect choice to boost personal ventilation.

Whilst sweaty feet are undoubtedly embarrassing, they can also lead to a number of genuine health complaints, including athlete’s foot. Though many choose cotton socks by default, these are often a major cause of the problem, with cotton tending to hold onto moisture rather than dispersing it. These Men’s Wool Blend Socks are a far safer option, with their wool rich build allowing feet to breathe easier and stay ventilated during warmer weather.

If you’re keen to free your feet even further, a pair of good quality sandals can go a long way to keep them cool and dry. These Surf Men’s Closed Toe Sandals offer efficient ventilation without sacrificing comfort or stability, making them the perfect choice for casual summer wear. For added accessibility, these Floso Men’s Stripe Palm Print Flip Flops are another great option, boasting a vibrant palm tree design and a pocket-friendly price-tag.

Top Tips For Keeping Cool This Summer

Heat can be unbearable in the summer, but whilst you may find it hard to stop sweating altogether (sweating is your body’s way of cooling itself down!) there are ways to keep cool and prevent sweat accumulation, which can cause itchiness, skin disorders, bacteria build up, and body odour. Here are some excellent ways to keep cool this summer:

  • Choose to exercise when it’s cooler, like early in the morning or late at night.
  • Have a spray bottle with water in the fridge and spray it on your face after spending time outdoors.
  • Wear loose-fitting clothes that are made of 100% cotton. Restrictive clothing can be uncomfortable in the summer.
  • Choose to wear light coloured clothing, such as white. Darker colours tend to absorb more heat than lighter ones.
  • Wear cotton socks with breathable shoes or sneakers.
  • Consider using foot powder before putting your socks on to prevent bacterial growth that will cause foot odour and fungus, which can grow when you keep wearing sweaty socks.
  • Avoid beverages that may cause dehydration, such as alcohol and caffeine. Consume plenty of water and sports drinks or beverages that can provide your body with electrolytes, which you lose when you sweat a lot.
  • If your home is not air conditioned, make arrangements to spend a few hours in a shopping centre, movie theatre, or public library, where you can take advantage of the air conditioning.
  • Wear a summer hat. Choose one that is made of materials that let air in, such as straw. A visor hat can also work as it keeps the top of your head exposed to prevent sweat from accumulating.

How To Banish Sweaty Feet For Good

feetFrom runners and athletes to busy workers under pressure; the problem of sweaty feet has plagued many over the years. It’s an oft forgotten fact that sweating is actually one of the ways in which our bodies cool down, and with 500,000 sweat glands housed in each pair, the average human foot produces around half a pint of sweat a day. But whilst perspiration in itself may be little more than an uncomfortable irritation, excess sweating can lead to a whole host of ailments including athletes foot and a variety of fungal infections, conditions which can sometimes require medical attention.

But what causes sweat? Although simple over-heating is the most obvious answer, there are many factors which can influence how much we perspire. Physical stress placed upon the body during exercise certainly makes an impact, but emotional stress can also bring about a similar reaction, with teenagers and pregnant women thought to be particularly susceptible on account of their often-unpredictable hormone fluctuations. Beyond this, Some people are thought to simply inherit the condition, with other experts pointing to diet and toxin levels as additional sources of the problem. glaglalogo

So what can be done? Whilst many have attempted to combat the problem, few have done as much as French company Glagla. Marketed as ‘The Lightweight Ventilated Shoe’, the Glagla footwear range does exactly what it claims to, offering feet a fresh supply of air through a combination of traditional mesh panels and innovative design mechanisms.

glagla1The bulk of the Glagla collection achieves this superior air circulation through a series of vent slots, carefully moulded into the sole of each shoe. With two on the heel, three across the ball and one in the centre, the slots are designed to draw in air as you move, pushing it throughout the interior of the shoe and out again as you step down. Through this patented system, Glagla shoes claim that they can keep your feet on average 6 degrees cooler than a standard shoe would, and discharge twice as much moisture from inside the shoe in the process.

With a product range that covers clogs, trainers and sports shoes for men, women and children, Glagla are the perfect choice for people looking to beat sweat whether it’s at work, at home or at the gym. What’s more, Glagla shoes are safe and easy to wash in your home washing machine, making them the perfect choice for people who want to keep both their shoes and their feet as clean and fresh as possible.

How To Keep Cool And Banish Sweat From Your Workout

jogladyjogWhen it comes to working out, most of us can admit that we need all the help we can get. With our modern-day lifestyles growing ever more hectic, it can be hard to make time to hit the gym or slide into our running gear for a jog around the block, particularly when the outcome leaves you tired, sore and soggy with sweat. But are you wearing the right thing? Many of us jump at the chance to try the latest superstar diets and flock to whatever workout class is suddenly in fashion, but when it comes to effective exercise, your wardrobe choices play a bigger part than you might think.

Perhaps one of the most off-putting aspects of exercise is the sweat factor. Whether or not you buy into the old adage of ‘If you’re not sweating, you’re not doing it right’, perspiration is a natural part of the workout process, and even though it may be tough to prevent it, innovations such as Adidas’ Climacool technology can help to minimise its lasting impact.

climacool

Made from a combination of warmth and moisture management materials, the Adidas Climacool sportswear range is designed to move heat and sweat away from the body through ventilation channels built into its three-dimensional fabric. These channels allow air to reach the skin, instead of locking it beneath a wall of dense material that acts as a perspiration prison, thus allowing moisture to evaporate and escape instead of lingering on your body.

But how did they come up with it? The first step was to use sophisticated infrared cameras to generate thermal body maps of athletes in action. These were analysed and used to identify the key spots where sweat formed during a particular exercise. From there, the Adidas team were able to design ways of ensuring that fresh air reached the problem areas.
fielFor those that want an even more comprehensive cooling experience, Adidas just last month launched an enhanced range called Climachill. The new collection features strategically-placed aluminium cooling spheres sewn into the fabric, providing an instant cooling sensation and drawing heat further from the body.

Perhaps most importantly, Adidas have been quick to acknowledge that our bodies react differently to different sports. To this end, the Adidas Climacool range covers everything from golf and running gear to rugby and football kits, ensuring that whatever you take on, you’re guaranteed protection that is designed with you in mind.
